Become a volunteer at WordCamp Netherlands?
As a volunteer, you help make WordCamp Netherlands an unforgettable WordCamp. For example, you may help with attendee registration or guide speakers. You will also be a point of contact for attendees.
After we have received the volunteer applications, we will create a task schedule. We will take your preferences into account where possible.
Why volunteer at a WordCamp?
As a volunteer, you contribute to the WordPress community in a unique way. It is an accessible way to meet other attendees, speakers, and sponsors. You also get a behind-the-scenes look, free access to WordCamp Netherlands and Madurodam, a seat at the thank-you dinner, and above all, a great time.
What do you get in return?
Volunteering at a WordCamp is definitely worth it. As a thank-you for your help, you will receive:
- Free access to WordCamp Netherlands 2026, including access to Madurodam.
- Access to all sessions outside your volunteer shift.
- Access to the afterparty on Thursday evening.
- A unique behind-the-scenes look at how a WordCamp is organised.
- Networking opportunities with speakers, sponsors, and other volunteers.
What do we ask from you?
- Availability on Thursday 12 and/or Friday 13 November 2026.
- Willingness to actively help for at least one half-day.
- Enthusiasm, a proactive attitude, and a smile.
- Knowledge of WordPress is a plus, but definitely not required.
Roles & tasks
Organising a large event like WordCamp Netherlands involves many tasks to make sure everything runs smoothly.
View the volunteer roles below for more information about what our volunteers will do. There is bound to be something that suits you:
Registration
At the registration desk, you warmly welcome everyone to WordCamp Netherlands. You are responsible for checking in attendees and handing out name badges. You also help attendees, speakers, and volunteers find their way with relevant information.
Speaker support / Doorkeeper
You make sure speakers arrive at the room on time, feel comfortable, and have a glass of water ready on stage. During presentations, you act as the doorkeeper and close rooms when they are full to ensure attendee safety. You also make sure attendees who enter during a presentation do so quietly, so the speaker is not disturbed.
Room Manager / Mic Runner / Timekeeper
As a room manager, you are responsible for making sure the conference runs smoothly in your room. You ensure presentations start and end on time, and you coordinate the MC, speaker support volunteer, and doorkeeper.
MC (Master of Ceremonies)
Do you enjoy being on stage, introducing speakers, and engaging the audience? As MC, you are the person on stage who introduces the speakers, guides the Q&A, and shares important event information with attendees. You help connect the programme throughout the day in an engaging way.
Workshop Assistant
As a workshop assistant, you support the workshop host, the speaker, where needed.
Photographer and/or videographer
You capture the atmosphere, sessions, speakers, attendees, and special moments during WordCamp Netherlands. Your photos or videos help us share the story of the event with the community afterwards.
Technical support
You make sure the technical setup in the rooms works properly before, during, and after the presentations.
Floater
Sometimes, more help is unexpectedly needed in a specific place. You are happy to jump in where needed, you are flexible, and you can quickly switch between different tasks.
